Your new organisation
Puffing Billy Railway, in partnership with Hays, is seeking an experienced Train Services Manager to join one of Victorias most iconic and purposedriven organisations.
Welcoming visitors from around the world, Puffing Billy Railway delivers unforgettable heritage rail experiences. This senior leadership role is critical to ensuring train services are delivered safely, reliably and sustainably, while supporting a highquality visitor experience.

Your new role
The Train Services Manager is a newly established leadership role reporting to the Group Manager Operations, with responsibility for the planning, coordination and delivery of train services across the rail corridor.
The position brings together oversight of train timetabling, rollingstock movement and workforce capability, ensuring rail operations are delivered safely and in compliance with legislative and internal governance frameworks.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead train timetabling, rollingstock utilisation and operational readiness
  • Oversee rail operations planning, rostering and workforce capability
  • Manage a large and diverse workforce, including paid employees and volunteers
  • Ensure compliance with Rail Safety National Law and the Safety Management System
  • Support workforce planning and capability development
  • Partner closely with Passenger Services and Engineering teams to align operations with visitor experience outcomes
  • Lead incident response, investigation and continuous improvement initiatives

About you
You are a confident and collaborative operational leader with experience in rail, transport or logistics operations, ideally within a regulated or safetycritical environment.

You will bring:

  • Proven experience managing operational teams
  • Exposure to rail operations, rollingstock, timetabling or transport/logistics planning
  • Strong understanding of safety management systems and compliance
  • Experience working with large workforces; unionised or transitioning environments desirable
  • Experience managing volunteers (advantageous)

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Minimum Certificate IV (Rail Operations Management, Rail Safety Management or Safety Management Systems preferred)
  • Category 3 Rail Health Safety Work Assessment
  • National Criminal History Check
  • Victorian Working With Children Check
