We now have a permanent full-time role for an experienced sport/news journalist/producer to join us in our Sydney news team.
 
Enough about us! What you’ll do as the Sports and Network Coordinator/Producer: 
 
This role is responsible for coordinating sports news coverage across the newsroom while managing relationships and content flows with network partners, affiliates, rights holders, and external content providers. The role ensures timely, accurate, and engaging sports content is delivered across all broadcast, digital, and social media platforms while maintaining effective communication and operational alignment between the newsroom and network stakeholders.  

This role involves regular weekend work. 
  
Functions will also include: 
 
Sports Coverage Production 

  • Write and produce Sydney and network sports content
  • Coordinate daily sports news gathering, planning, and coverage activities, working closely with reporters, producers, editors, presenters, and digital teams to deliver comprehensive sports content
  • Develop coverage plans for major sporting events
  • Assist with assigning resources and managing logistics for sports reporting teams

Network Coordination 

  • Serve as the primary newsroom liaison with network partners and affiliates
  • Coordinate the acquisition, distribution, and scheduling of network sports content
  • Manage communications regarding content availability, transmission schedules, and editorial priorities
  • Ensure network feeds, packages, and live crosses are delivered efficiently and accurately
  • Support integration of network content into local and national news programming 

Content Management 

  • Track content rights, usage restrictions, and licensing requirements
  • Maintain sports coverage calendars and network distribution schedules
  • Coordinate live event coverage, satellite bookings, remote broadcasts, and technical requirements where applicable
  • Monitor content performance and audience engagement metrics
  • Identify opportunities to enhance sports storytelling across multiple platforms

Operational Support 

  • Participate in editorial meetings and contribute to coverage planning
  • Assist in managing breaking sports news and major event responses
  • Maintain accurate records, contact databases, and operational documentation 

What are the key requirements?  
 
•    Experience in a newsroom, sports media, broadcasting, or digital media environment
•    Strong understanding of sports news production and editorial processes 
•    Excellent organisational and coordination skills
•    Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities 
•    Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities simultaneously 
•    Knowledge of sports media rights and content distribution practices 
•    Proficiency in newsroom, content management, and scheduling systems
•    Ability to work rostered weekends
