About the Role

As a multinational research organisation, Australia Today (Today Australia) operates at the intersection of digital transformation, trust, and cross-border regulation. We are looking for a Bilingual Solicitor to join our Sydney headquarters.

In this role, you will provide legal advisory services and commercial legal support related to cross-border digital operations, regulatory compliance, international trade, and corporate governance matters in Australia and China. You will assist our company and clients in navigating the complex legal and regulatory environments associated with digital transformation and international business activities.

Key Responsibilities

l Conduct in-depth legal research into digital privacy laws, data sovereignty, cybersecurity regulations and cross border compliance requirements in Australia and China;

l Analyse judicial decisions, legislative developments ad regulatory frameworks relating to cross-border digital trade, data governance and international commercial activities;

l Provide high-level legal advice to enterprise clients on regulatory compliance, digital operations, corporate structures and cross-border commercial matters;.

l Advise on Foreign Invested Enterprise (FIE) structures and compliance requirements for multinational entities;

l Draft and review complex consultancy agreements, service contracts, and MOUs for international projects and business activities;

l Prepare shareholder and director resolutions, and other corporate legal documentation for the organisation’s multinational operations to ensure compliance with applicable corporate and commercial laws;

l Liaise with government bodies, legal professionals, regulators and corporate stakeholders in both Australia and China regarding legal compliance and project-related matters;

l Conduct negotiations regarding cross-border commercial arrangements, investment activities and digital cooperation projects.

l Identify and advise on potential legal risks in cross-border digital environments, and assist in preparing legal briefs and supporting documentation for mediation, dispute resolution or arbitration proceedings.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will be a detail-oriented legal professional who thrives in a cross-cultural environment. Specifically, we are looking for:

A Qualified Practitioner: Hold a current Australian Practising Certificate and possess sound knowledge of Australian commercial and corporate law principles.

A Cross-Border Specialist: Demonstrated experience (ideally 3+ years) in commercial law, international trade, or corporate advisory. Experience advising on Foreign Invested Enterprises (FIEs) or State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) will be highly regarded.

An Effective Communicator: Have the ability to explain complex legal concepts and contractual matters to clients and stakeholders. Mandarin language skill is highly regarded (not essential).

An Analytical Researcher: Strong legal research, analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret legislation, judicial decisions and legislative changes, and apply them to practical legal and commercial matters.

A Collaborative Professional: Ability to work effectively within a multinational team and liaise professionally with high-level corporate clients, legal practitioners, government representatives and other stakeholders.
