About the Role:

As the Principal Policy Officer, you will lead high-profile reform initiatives within a dynamic legislative environment. You will work across government, industry and community sectors to support the implementation of the Animal Welfare Act 2025, providing strategic advice and driving effective regulatory implementation.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead and deliver complex legislative and regulatory reform projects
  2. Provide high-level advice on policy, legislation, and implementation approaches
  3. Develop and embed processes to support effective regulation and enforcement
  4. Interpret and apply policy and legislation in regulatory contexts
  5. Build and maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders
  6. Develop and maintain policies aligned with statutory requirements

To be successful, you will bring:

  1. Experience leading stakeholder engagement on complex issues
  2. Ability to interpret and apply legislation and policy frameworks
  3. Ability to deliver well-planned and practical solutions
  4. Strong written communication skills (briefings, reports, correspondence)
  5. Ability to provide sound governance and decision-making advice
  6. Analytical thinking and clear communication
