Spruce It Up Painting is seeking a reliable and skilled Painter to join our team on a full-time permanent basis. The successful candidate will work through residential, commercial and/or maintenance painting projects, ensuring quality preparation, coating and finishing work is completed safely, efficiently and to client specifications.
About the Position
The Painter will be responsible for preparing surfaces, selecting and applying paints and finishes, protecting surrounding areas, maintaining tools and work areas, and delivering high-quality finishes across building and structure surfaces.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Erect and use ladders, trestles, scaffolding and other access equipment safely, and place drop sheets or protective coverings to prevent paint damage to nearby surfaces.
- Prepare internal and external surfaces by removing old paint, wallpaper or damaged finishes, repairing minor defects, filling holes and cracks, sanding, smoothing and sealing surfaces prior to painting.
- Select, match and prepare paint, varnish, stains and other finishes, including mixing colours, pigments and additives to achieve the required finish and texture.
- Apply paint, varnish, stains, sealers and protective coatings using brushes, rollers, spray equipment and other suitable painting tools.
- Hang wallpaper or other decorative wall coverings where required, including measuring, matching patterns, trimming edges and ensuring a clean finish.
- Inspect completed work to ensure surfaces are even, clean, durable and completed according to job requirements, safety standards and client expectations.
- Clean and maintain painting tools, spray equipment, materials, work vehicles and job sites in a safe and organised condition.
- Repair or assist with minor maintenance tasks related to painting work, including minor woodwork repairs, patching and basic surface restoration where required.
- Read and follow job instructions, colour schedules, safety procedures and project specifications.
- Communicate professionally with supervisors, team members, clients and other trades to coordinate daily work and ensure projects are completed on time.
Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience
- Certificate III in Painting and Decorating or equivalent trade qualification is preferred; however, relevant trade experience may be considered.
- At least 2 to 3 years of relevant painting experience in residential, commercial or maintenance projects is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of surface preparation, paint mixing, colour matching, coating systems and safe use of painting tools and equipment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team while maintaining quality standards and meeting project deadlines.
- Good attention to detail, physical fitness, reliability and commitment to workplace health and safety.
- White Card and current driver licence are preferred or may be required depending on the work location.
Salary and Employment Conditions
The position is offered on a full-time permanent basis with an annual salary between AUD $75,000 and AUD $85,000, plus superannuation. Final salary will depend on the candidate’s skills, qualifications and relevant industry experience. Standard full-time employment conditions will apply in accordance with Australian workplace laws and applicable employment instruments.
