About the position
The Operations Lead - Environmental will be responsible for the management and execution of day-to-day operations to allow delivery of all environmental consulting projects safely, adhering to the high standards established at DRM and exceeding client’s expectations. The Operations Lead – Environmental will report directly to, and maintain a high level of engagement with, the Managing Director of DRM. This role includes (but not limited to) the following, with respect to the environmental consulting business stream at DRM:
- Conduct stage 1 Preliminary (PSI) and Stage 2 detailed site investigation (DSI) assessments to evaluate contamination levels in soil, groundwater, and surface water;
- Design and implement site-specific remediation plans to address contamination and restore environmental quality to regulatory standards;
- Supervise field investigations, including sampling and monitoring of contaminants, to identify sources and levels of contamination;
- Ensuring that all works are conducted safely and in accordance with DRM’s strict safety standards;
- Training and mentoring of staff;
- Allocation of tasks and scheduling resources;
- Proposal and tender preparations;
- Review the delivery of projects to ensure high standards are met with regards to safety, technical aspects, quality, timing, customer satisfaction and budget;
- Review deliverables to a very high standard, so that the Managing Director is able to authorize the report for delivery with only a brief review of the Executive Summary;
- Review project finances regularly to ensure satisfactory financial delivery by project managers;
- Review of timesheets and optimize staff utilisation;
- Management of human resources within the environmental business stream;
- Management of other resources within the environmental business stream;
- Management of debtors;
- Consulting with the managing director to ensure financial targets are met; and
- The Operations Lead – Environmental is also expected to maintain a billable utilisationsation target of 65% (averaged across each quarter).
Therefore, in addition to the above-mentioned items, the Operations Lead – Environmental is also expected to execute billable projects, including conducting desktop reviews, field works and reporting. The Operations Lead – Environmental will also be expected to work cooperatively and effectively with other (future) Operations Leads for other business streams, when those positions are established.
What we’re looking for:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in environmental engineering, Environmental Science or Environmental Management;
- Minimum 3 years’ combined experience in environmental consulting (with particular focus on contaminated land management) and team leadership;
- Must demonstrate a strong working relationship with the Managing Director and other Operations Leads;
- Demonstrated competency in earth sciences and environmental management;
- Demonstrated understanding of the contaminated land management framework in NSW as well as the NEPM;
- Comprehension of the environmental planning and approvals framework for land development and construction projects, with regard to contamination;
- Strong written, reporting and verbal communication skills;
- Proven/demonstrated experience in delivering projects and leading or mentoring Team members;
- Ability to design, undertake, and/or manage site investigation and remediation programs;
- Ability to oversee daily operations, allocate tasks, manage workloads, and provide clear technical direction;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team of professionals;
- Solid problem solving, analytical and conceptual skills;
- Excellent communication skills (Clients and stakeholders including site auditors, regulatory authorities etc);
- Strong business acumen and an ability to identify, pursue and win work; and
- Ability to conduct business development work.
What We Offer:
Total remuneration package of $103,000 to $108,000
- Base Salary of $78,000 to $83,000
- 12% Superannuation
- All expenses paid 4WD Ute (for reasonable personal use)
