As a Repco Authorised Service centre, G-Mac Auto Centre provides a range of services including general vehicle servicing, log book servicing, engine repairs, transmission work, steering and suspension repairs, air conditioning servicing, wheel alignments and other mechanical repairs.
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Motor Mechanic to join our team on a full-time permanent basis.
About the Role
The Motor Mechanic will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing and maintaining motor vehicles to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation. The role will involve identifying mechanical and electrical faults, repairing and replacing worn or defective parts, carrying out scheduled servicing, testing vehicle systems, and ensuring all work is completed to a high professional standard.
The successful applicant will be required to work with a range of vehicle systems and components, including engines, transmissions, steering, suspension, brakes and electrical systems.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Detect and diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in engines, vehicle systems and parts;
- Dismantle and remove engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms and other components, and inspect parts for wear, damage or faults;
- Repair and replace worn, defective or damaged parts and reassemble mechanical components;
- Refer to service manuals, technical information and diagnostic procedures when required;
- Perform scheduled maintenance services, including oil changes, lubrication, engine tune-ups and general vehicle servicing;
- Carry out repairs and maintenance to improve vehicle performance and ensure compliance with safety and pollution regulations;
- Reassemble engines and mechanical parts after repair or replacement;
- Test, adjust and inspect mechanical parts after repairs to ensure proper performance and safe operation;
- Diagnose and test vehicle components and systems with the assistance of computerised diagnostic equipment;
- Inspect vehicles and identify work required to achieve roadworthiness standards;
- Issue roadworthiness certificates where authorised and applicable;
- Respond to vehicle breakdowns and provide mechanical support where required;
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, servicing and work performed;
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures and maintain a clean, safe and organised workshop environment.
Skills and Experience Required
To be considered for this role, applicants must have:
- AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training
- Minimum 1 year of relevant experience as a Motor Mechanic or in a similar automotive repair role;
- Practical knowledge of motor vehicle servicing, diagnostics, repairs and maintenance;
- Ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment;
- Experience repairing and maintaining engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension and related vehicle systems;
- Ability to read and follow service manuals, technical instructions and repair procedures;
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe, reliable and high-quality workmanship;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a workshop team;
- Good communication skills and ability to explain vehicle faults and repair requirements clearly;
- Understanding of workplace health and safety requirements in an automotive workshop environment.
Salary
$80,000 per year plus 12% superannuation.
