About the Role
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced and motivated Landscape Gardener to join Strathdickie Plant Hire in Strathdickie, Queensland. The successful applicant will be responsible for carrying out a broad range of landscaping, horticultural, garden maintenance, and landscape construction activities across residential, commercial, and public sites.
This role requires practical experience in landscaping, irrigation systems, plant propagation, soil preparation, hardscape and softscape installation, and the safe operation of landscaping machinery and equipment. The position plays an important role in maintaining high presentation standards and ensuring landscaping projects are completed efficiently and safely.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform landscaping and garden maintenance activities including planting, turfing, mulching, soil preparation, pruning, mowing, hedging, and weed control.
- Set out landscape works and determine required materials and plants.
- Measure, level, and prepare sites for hardscape and softscape installation.
- Estimate quantities of soil, plants, turf, and landscape construction materials.
- Construct and install paved and gravel areas, retaining or garden walls, edging, fences, trellises, and other landscape features.
- Install garden drainage and prepare bases for landscape structures.
- Install, maintain, and repair irrigation systems, pumps, and watering equipment.
- Carry out plant propagation and establish trees, shrubs, and garden beds.
- Monitor plant health and apply appropriate fertilisers and approved pest and disease treatments.
- Operate and maintain landscaping machinery and equipment including mowers, brush cutters, compact machinery, and other horticultural equipment.
- Undertake site preparation, soil improvement, levelling, and landscape project construction.
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with workplace health and safety requirements.
- Maintain tools, vehicles, machinery, and equipment in good working order.
- Work effectively within a team environment and assist with training or guiding junior staff when required.
- Maintain high standards of presentation across all work sites.
Essential Requirements
- AQF Certificate III qualification or equivalent in Landscape Construction, Landscaping, Horticulture, or a closely related field; or at least 3 years of relevant experience in lieu of formal qualification.
- White Card (Construction Induction Card).
- Minimum 12 months of recent full-time, or equivalent, experience in landscaping, gardening, horticulture, plant propagation, landscape construction, or garden maintenance.
- Demonstrated experience with irrigation systems and plant establishment.
- Knowledge of plant care, soil management, weed control, and pest management practices.
- Ability to safely operate landscaping equipment and machinery.
- Good physical fitness and ability to undertake manual outdoor work.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Current Australian Driver Licence highly regarded.
Desirable
- Experience supervising or mentoring other staff.
- Experience operating machinery such as skid steers, excavators, tractors, or similar equipment.
- Chemical application certification or equivalent industry training.
