The Role
As our General Accountant, you will go beyond routine bookkeeping. You will play a key advisory role in shaping our financial strategy, ensuring compliance, and strengthening our internal systems. You will work closely with leadership to guide budgeting, reporting, and risk management.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Plan & Strategize – Assist in formulating budgetary and accounting policies that directly support Laneway Education’s long-term strategic and operational goals.
- Lead Reporting – Prepare accurate and timely financial statements for presentation to the Board of Directors, executive management, shareholders, and relevant governing and statutory bodies.
- Investigate & Advise – Conduct financial investigations, prepare detailed reports, undertake internal audits, and provide advice on critical matters including business acquisitions or sales, mergers, capital financing, suspected fraud, insolvency, and taxation.
- Analyse Performance – Examine operating costs, income streams, and expenditure patterns to identify efficiencies, cost-saving opportunities, and emerging financial trends within Laneway Education.
- Ensure Compliance – Provide assurance regarding the accuracy and integrity of information contained in financial reports, and ensure full compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Implement Systems – Introduce and maintain robust accounting systems, including advising on the selection, application, and optimisation of computer-based accounting platforms tailored to Laneway Education’s needs.
About You
- Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Experience: Minimum 1-year of experience in a general accounting role, ideally within education, NFP, or professional services.
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, tax law, and experience with modern accounting systems (e.g., Xero, MYOB, or SAP).
- Soft Skills: High integrity, excellent communication skills for translating financial concepts to non-finance stakeholders, and strong investigative abilities.
