We are seeking a GambleAware Therapeutic Counsellor to provide relationship‑focused support to individuals, couples and families impacted by gambling harm. Working within a specialist, integrated service, you’ll use a strengths‑based, non‑judgemental approach to support recovery and wellbeing.

Delivered in partnership with Wesley Mission and funded by the Office of Responsible Gambling, this role is part of a multidisciplinary model supporting diverse community needs across the help‑seeking journey. You’ll collaborate with clinical and community practitioners in a framework that values reflective practice and coordinated care.

The details

  • 2-year maximum-term contract (with the potential for extension)
  • Part time role working 4 days a week
  • Starting in June 2026
  • Location: Sydney City
  • Approx $48.50 – $54.24 per hour (depending on skills and experience) + 12% superannuation, 17.5% leave loading, plus tax‑free salary packaging up to $15,900 (Increase your take‑home pay: https://www.salary.com.au/calculate-your-savings)

What you’ll do

  • Provide therapeutic counselling to individuals, couples and families (in‑person, online and by phone) using a family‑inclusive, relationship‑focused approach
  • Deliver services within a stepped‑care, integrated model, collaborating with clinical, peer and community practitioners
  • Conduct intake, psychosocial and risk assessments using evidence‑based approaches (CBT, ACT, Motivational Interviewing, DBT)
  • Support clients to build on strengths, develop coping strategies and reduce gambling‑related harm
  • Monitor progress using validated outcome tools (e.g. PGSI, G‑SAS, K10), maintain clinical documentation, and contribute to group programs, outreach, education and reflective practice

What you’ll bring

  • Postgraduate qualification in Relationship Counselling or Couple & Family Counselling
  • Registration with AHPRA, AASW, PACFA or ACA
  • Experience working with individuals, couples and families using a family systems or family‑inclusive framework
  • Understanding of gambling harm, addiction, mental health, domestic and family violence and child protection
  • A strengths‑based, non‑judgemental and culturally safe practice approach
