As our business continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Electronic Instrument Trades Worker to join our team.
Position Overview
We are currently seeking a skilled and dependable Electronic Instrument Trades Worker to support our operations in the testing, maintenance, installation, repair and commissioning of electromechanical systems, electronic instruments and control equipment across our client base.
The role will involve both field-based and office-based responsibilities, including site attendance, diagnostic testing of equipment and control systems, fault identification and rectification, preparation of service documentation, and assisting with the planning and delivery of installation and maintenance works. The successful candidate will be expected to apply sound technical knowledge across electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, exercise strong attention to detail, and communicate clearly with both clients and internal teams.
The Position
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting diagnostic testing and inspection of electromechanical equipment, electronic instruments, and control systems to identify faults and operational issues.
- Performing repairs and replacements of defective components, worn parts, and damaged wiring to restore equipment to proper working condition.
- Carrying out maintenance of mechanical systems, electronic control devices, carbon monoxide sensors, fire dampers and associated building services equipment.
- Completing installation works for electronic instrumentation and control systems in accordance with technical specifications and relevant standards.
- Dismantling, repairing, reassembling and test-operating equipment to verify correct functionality following maintenance or repair activities.
- Adjusting and calibrating equipment and control systems to ensure optimal performance and compliance with operational requirements.
- Providing guidance to clients and building users on correct operation and maintenance procedures to prevent equipment malfunction and prolong service life.
- Commissioning new equipment and control systems by applying knowledge of electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic operating principles.
- Reading technical drawings, wiring diagrams, product specifications and equipment manuals to ensure works are carried out correctly.
- Identifying defects, equipment wear, system malfunctions or non-compliant installations and accurately documenting findings.
- Preparing service records, test reports, maintenance documentation and defect schedules for clients and internal use.
- Working closely with management, technicians and other trades to plan scope of works and ensure efficient delivery of projects and service activities.
- Attending client sites to assess the condition and performance of electromechanical systems and gather information for quoting and planning purposes.
- Monitoring the quality of completed works and ensuring systems and equipment are left in a safe, compliant and fully operational condition.
- Maintaining accurate asset, service and equipment information within company software systems.
- Communicating professionally with clients, building managers, contractors and consultants regarding equipment condition, technical issues and required works.
- Supporting the business in delivering reliable and practical electromechanical system solutions across both routine servicing and project installations.
The Applicant
The successful candidate must have the following qualifications and experience:
- At least a relevant qualification with at least 12 months' work experience or if no relevant qualification at least 3 years full-time work experience.
- Demonstrated experience in the testing, maintenance, repair, installation and commissioning of electromechanical systems, electronic instruments and control equipment.
- Strong technical knowledge of electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and their practical application.
- Ability to diagnose faults, interpret technical requirements and implement practical and effective solutions.
- Experience preparing clear service records, test reports, maintenance schedules and technical documentation.
- Sound understanding of building environments and the coordination required when carrying out technical works in live occupied sites.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess system performance and determine appropriate corrective actions.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, technicians, contractors and management.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team while managing multiple tasks and priorities.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in relevant software systems, including service and asset management platforms such as Uptick, and general competency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Must hold a current Australian Driver Licence.
- Must have a recent police check, as many of our clients are within aged care, education and other sensitive environments.
Desirable
- Experience across a broad range of electromechanical equipment, control systems and building services installations.
- Knowledge of relevant Australian Standards and compliance requirements for electronic instrumentation and control systems.
- Experience working with contractors, strata managers, building managers or commercial clients.
- Strong written English skills for reporting and client communication.
- Additional language skills, including Spanish, would be considered favourably.
