This is a part time vacancy available for 0.5 (19 hrs) per week.

Step into a rewarding Director of O&G role which has direct line management of the O&G department, including human resource management responsibilities, direct supervision of Medical Officers, financial management, departmental performance, procurement, leadership of continuous quality improvement activities, and participation as a member of a senior management team, including governance activities delivering diverse, high-acuity care while leading outreach and advancing women’s health across the Top End.

The Service

The Obstetrics and Gynaecology department at Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) is a high-acuity, multidisciplinary unit delivering specialist care to women across the Northern Territory.

The department offers a wide range of services including generalist obstetrics and gynaecology, maternal foetal medicine, gynaecological oncology, colposcopy, urogynaecology, reproductive health, and a hospital-supported homebirth program. We also work closely with Charles Darwin University and Menzies School of Health Research, providing teaching and research opportunities, and support collaborations with Pacific Island nations for those interested in global health.

The Role

As the Head of Department Obstetrics and Oncology, you will provide leadership to the O&G Department, report to the Divisional Medical Co-Director and support the Divisional Medical and Nursing Co-Directors with implementation of clinical and organisational priorities, in order to provide safe, timely, efficient, effective, equitable and person-centred clinical services

Key Duties

  1. Provide leadership for the Department, including the management of patient flow and demand management strategies, safety and quality, clinical audit and review, and junior staff supervision, training and teaching.
  2. Support divisional clinical governance, operations and implement strategic programmes through a close working relationship with RDPH Executive Team.
  3. Lead a culture of high performing teams, professional excellence and accountability within the NT Health Values.
  4. Perform human resource responsibilities including the direct supervision of medical staff, allocation of duties, establishment of rosters, performance management of staff and monitoring staffing levels, workloads and hours worked.
  5. Provide leadership in fostering partnerships between healthcare providers across a range of disciplines and services to enhance the capacity for multi-disciplinary care, and contribute to NT Health clinical leadership in the relevant specialty.
  6. Responsible for the Unit’s financial management and efficiencies, and allocations of resources.
  7. Lead continuous quality improvement activities and clinical outcome measurement, planning, and the development of procedures and guidelines.
  8. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
  9. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.

About you

You’re a passionate and committed clinician who values teamwork, cultural safety, and equity in healthcare delivery. To be successful in this role you will:

  1. Eligible for specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia and current Fellowship of relevant Medical College.
  2. Completed not less than the equivalent of six years of full-time service in medical practice as a Staff Specialist
  3. Have excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to interact positively as a Director in a cross-cultural work environment.
