About the role:

VIMAL'S CATERING PTY LTD is seeking a dedicated and skilled Cook to support daily kitchen operations and ensure the preparation of high-quality meals. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of dishes according to established recipes and standards, maintaining consistency in taste and presentation. You will work closely with the kitchen team to manage food preparation, ensure timely service during catering events, and maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen. The role also involves assisting with stock control, food storage, and ensuring compliance with food safety regulations. This position is ideal for a professional who is passionate about cooking and thrives in a fast-paced catering environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Inspect and select fresh ingredients, meats, and produce to ensure all dishes meet the company’s quality standards and authentic flavour requirements
  2. Operate and monitor kitchen equipment including ovens, grills, and cooktops, ensuring correct temperature control for efficient food preparation and consistent results
  3. Prepare and cook a variety of dishes from the company’s multi-cuisine menu, including Indian, Sri Lankan, and Asian dishes, in line with established recipes and presentation standards
  4. Season and flavour food appropriately during preparation and cooking to maintain consistency in taste and authenticity across all catering orders
  5. Portion and present dishes attractively, adding appropriate garnishes, sauces, and accompaniments to meet customer expectations and service standards
  6. Store food items safely in temperature-controlled environments, ensuring proper labelling, stock rotation, and compliance with food safety regulations
  7. Prepare meals in accordance with specific dietary requirements, including vegetarian, vegan, and allergen-sensitive requests for catering clients
  8. Assist in menu planning and estimating food quantities for events and functions to ensure efficient service and minimise wastage
  9. Support and guide junior kitchen staff during food preparation and service, ensuring adherence to hygiene standards and smooth kitchen operations

Requirements:

  1. Relevant qualification in Commercial Cookery (Certificate III or IV or equivalent)
  2. Minimum 1 years of experience working as a Cook in a commercial kitchen or catering environment
  3. Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques, cooking methods, and kitchen operations
  4. Experience in preparing multi-cuisine dishes, particularly Indian and Asian cuisine, is preferred
  5. Sound understanding of food safety standards, hygiene practices, and workplace health regulations
  6. Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced kitchen environment
  7. Strong teamwork and communication skills
  8. Good time management and ability to handle multiple tasks during busy service periods
  9. Basic knowledge of stock control, inventory management, and kitchen organisation
