Salary: $74,000–$80,000 per annum plus superannuation (depending on experience)
Sale's Rainbow Chinese Restaurant, a well-established and busy Chinese restaurant in Sale, Victoria, is seeking an experienced, dedicated cook to join our team on a full-time basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated hospitality professional with experience preparing authentic Chinese cuisine in a fast-paced commercial kitchen.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be responsible for:
- Examining foodstuffs to ensure freshness, quality, and suitability for preparation;
- Regulating temperatures of ovens, grills, woks, fryers, and other cooking equipment;
- Preparing and cooking a wide range of Chinese cuisine, including stir-fries, noodle dishes, rice dishes, soups, appetisers, and the chef’s specialty dishes;
- Seasoning food during preparation and cooking to maintain consistency and flavour standards;
- Portioning food, plating meals attractively, and adding sauces, gravies, and garnishes where required;
- Storing food in temperature-controlled facilities in accordance with food safety requirements;
- Preparing meals to accommodate special dietary requirements where necessary;
- Assisting with menu planning and estimating food requirements and stock usage;
- Monitoring stock levels and assisting with ordering ingredients and kitchen supplies;
- Maintaining kitchen cleanliness, food hygiene, and compliance with food safety regulations;
- Minimising food wastage through proper stock rotation and portion control;
- Working collaboratively with kitchen staff to ensure efficient food service during busy periods;
- Training and supervising junior kitchen staff or apprentices where required;
- Ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety procedures.
Skills and Experience Required
To be considered, applicants should have:
- A relevant qualification in Commercial Cookery, and/or
- At least 1–2 years of relevant commercial kitchen experience in a similar role;
Preferred:
- Experience in Chinese cuisine;
- Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume kitchen environment;
- Strong organisational and teamwork skills;
- Sound understanding of food safety and hygiene practices.
