Job Description
We are currently seeking a skilled and motivated Cook to join our team on a full-time basis. The role is suited to a candidate with experience in Japanese cuisine, strong attention to detail, and the ability to perform efficiently in a busy kitchen environment.
As a Cook at Sushi Motoko, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking a range of Japanese dishes, maintaining food quality and presentation standards, supporting smooth kitchen operations, and ensuring compliance with food safety and hygiene requirements.
The Tasks for the position include:
·Preparing, seasoning and cooking a range of Japanese dishes, including sushi, sashimi, tempura, rice dishes, noodles, grilled items and other menu offerings.
·Examining foodstuffs and ingredients to ensure quality and freshness.
·Regulating the temperatures of ovens, grills, fryers and other cooking equipment.
·Portioning food, plating dishes, and adding sauces, garnishes and accompaniments to maintain presentation standards.
·Storing food in temperature-controlled facilities and ensuring correct handling, labelling and stock rotation of ingredients.
·Assisting in the preparation of food to meet customer dietary requirements where required.
·Monitoring the quality of food during preparation and service to ensure consistency in taste, appearance and portion size.
·Maintaining a clean, organised and hygienic kitchen and work area at all times.
·Following food safety and sanitation procedures in accordance with relevant health and hygiene regulations.
·Assisting with stock control, checking deliveries, and notifying management of ordering requirements.
·Working closely with other kitchen staff and front-of-house staff to support efficient service during busy periods.
·Assisting in training junior kitchen staff in food preparation, safe food handling and kitchen procedures where required.
Skill Requirements
·Certificate III or Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery, or equivalent qualification.
·At least 1 year of relevant work experience as a Cook, preferably in a Japanese restaurant or similar commercial kitchen environment.
·Sound knowledge of Japanese cuisine, ingredients and food preparation techniques.
·Good understanding of food safety, kitchen hygiene and safe food handling practices.
·Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively within a team.
·Good communication skills and a positive attitude toward customer service and teamwork.
