Your new role 

We’re seeking an experienced, community-minded and innovative Community History and Engagement Librarian to lead the development, preservation and sharing of the Town’s Local History Collection while strengthening connections between people, place and story.

In this role, you will curate and grow the Local History Collection, oversee digitisation and access initiatives, and deliver responsive research and reference support to the community. You will also play a key role in building relationships with diverse stakeholders including Traditional Owners, multicultural communities, schools, clubs and long-term residents to ensure the Town’s history is inclusive, representative and meaningfully shared.

Working collaboratively, you will contribute to oral history projects, community displays, events and commemorative initiatives that celebrate local identity, encourage participation and make history accessible, relevant and engaging for all.

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Demonstrated experience in local history, community engagement, collection development or a similar role within a library, cultural or community setting
  • Strong knowledge of collection management, preservation, digitisation and access practices
  • Proven ability to build and maintain positive relationships with community stakeholders and encourage broad participation in local history initiatives
  • High level of customer service, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver projects to a high standard
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute to continuous improvement and service innovation
  • Innovative approach to library services and trends
  • High emotional intelligence and positive contributions to a strong team environment.

  • salary range of $80,377 - $92,336.40 with 4% salary increase effective 1 July 2026
