Civil Engineering Draftsperson
Beyond Steel Pty Ltd, a leading structural steel fabricator, is seeking a skilled Civil Engineering Draftsperson to join our team on a full-time, permanent basis. The successful candidate will translate engineering designs into accurate, manufacturable workshop drawings that support our fabrication operations.
Responsibilities:
· Interpret and analyse engineering designs, sketches, and specifications provided by civil engineers, and prepare detailed plans, drawings, and tabulations for structural and civil works including buildings, bridges, industrial facilities, and other steel structures.
· Develop accurate 3D models and 2D shop drawings using Tekla Structures (or equivalent), ensuring compliance with relevant Australian Standards (including AS 4100 and AS/NZS 5131) and industry fabrication best practices.
· Liaise with engineers, project managers, and workshop fabricators to clarify design intent, resolve technical queries, and meet project deadlines.
· Perform engineering computations and analyse design data to verify that drawings and completed works conform to specifications, project requirements, and contractual agreements.
· Prepare material take-offs and cost estimates from approved drawings to support procurement and fabrication planning.
· Conduct drawing checks and inspect fabricated components against engineering drawings to confirm compliance and identify variances for rectification.
· Maintain version control and document management across the drafting workflow, from initial issue through to as-built documentation.
· Apply consistent quality control standards throughout the detailing process, with close attention to dimensional accuracy, connection detailing, and constructability.
Qualifications:
· Minimum 2 years' experience in structural steel detailing.
· Proficiency in Tekla Structures or similar detailing software (AutoCAD an advantage).
· Sound working knowledge of structural steel components, fabrication processes, and relevant Australian Standards (including AS 4100 and AS/NZS 5131).
· Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise across concurrent projects.
· Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality documentation.
· Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, with experience preparing RFIs and maintaining Records of Communication with engineers, clients, and internal team members.
