The Role

We are currently seeking a passionate and experienced Chef to join our team full-time. This role is ideal for someone with a strong foundation in Japanese cuisine, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced kitchen environment.

As a Chef at Sushi Motoko, you will play a key role in preparing high-quality dishes, maintaining food safety standards, managing kitchen operations, and contributing to the overall success of the restaurant.

The Tasks for the position include

·Prepare and cook a wide range of Japanese dishes, including sushi, sashimi, tempura, and other menu items.

·Ensure all dishes are prepared to the highest quality and presentation standards.

·Follow recipes accurately and maintain consistency in taste and appearance.

·Manage kitchen inventory, including ordering and stocking ingredients.

·Monitor and maintain kitchen equipment, ensuring it is clean and in good working order.

·Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment.

·Adhere to food safety and hygiene standards at all times.

·Ensure all food is stored, handled, and prepared in compliance with health regulations.

·Conduct regular checks and follow protocols to prevent food contamination.

·Work closely with the Cook and Kitchen hands to ensure efficient kitchen operations.

·Train and mentor kitchen staff.

·Communicate effectively with front-of-house staff to ensure seamless service.

·Contribute to the creation and refinement of menu items.

·Stay informed about industry trends and incorporate new ideas and techniques into the menu.

·Provide input on seasonal and special dishes.

·Ensure that all dishes meet the restaurant’s quality standards and exceed customer expectations.

·Address any customer concerns or feedback related to food quality.

·Strive to enhance the overall dining experience for customers.

·Effectively communicate with restaurant manager, and suppliers to ensure smooth kitchen operations and ingredient sourcing.

·Occasionally engage with customers to understand their preferences, receive feedback, and create a positive dining experience.

Skill Requirements

·Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery and a Diploma of Hospitality Management.

·Minimum of 1 year of proven experience as a Chef, preferably within a Japanese restaurant or similar setting.

·Extensive knowledge of Japanese cuisine, ingredients, and preparation techniques.

·Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene practices.

·Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.

·Ability to perform well under pressure in a busy kitchen environment.

·Effective communication and teamwork skills.

·Basic competency in math and computer operations.
