About the Position

The Chef role is a key hands-on position responsible for the smooth and efficient running of the kitchen at our Coffee Club location in Riverton. The successful candidate will prepare and cook a wide variety of meals to the high standards expected by The Coffee Club brand, while supporting menu planning, cost control, and the training of junior kitchen staff. This position plays a vital part in maintaining our reputation for quality and consistency, ensuring every dish meets strict presentation and food safety requirements, and contributing to a positive, well-organised kitchen environment that supports excellent front-of-house service.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Assist in planning food menus, calculating food and labour costs, and managing the ordering of kitchen supplies and ingredients.
  2. Ensure the quality and presentation of dishes are maintained throughout preparation and service.
  3. Coordinate with managers, kitchen staff, and wait staff regarding food preparation and daily kitchen operations.
  4. Guide junior staff on cooking methods and proper food preparation techniques.
  5. Prepare and cook a variety of meals in accordance with business standards and customer requirements.
  6. Maintain and enforce food safety and hygiene standards within the kitchen.
  7. Support the recruitment and training of kitchen staff when required.
  8. Handle food storage activities, including freezing and preserving ingredients to maintain freshness and quality.

Requirements

  1. Australian citizens and permanent residents are encouraged to apply.
  2. A Diploma in Commercial Cookery or an equivalent qualification is required.
  3. A minimum of one year’s relevant experience in a chef or cook role is essential.
  4. Strong technical skills in food preparation, cooking methods, portion control, plating, and basic menu costing.
  5. Sound knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices, including the ability to maintain compliance with relevant standards.
  6. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to lead, guide, and work collaboratively as part of a busy kitchen and front-of-house team.
  7. Capacity to perform well under pressure during peak service periods while maintaining quality and efficiency.
