Key responsibilities:
·Plan, organise, and oversee the preparation and cooking of authentic South Indian cuisine, traditional Indian sweets, and catering orders.
·Plan menus, estimate food and labour costs, and order food supplies and ingredients.
·Prepare and cook a variety of South Indian dishes including but not limited to Dosa, Idli, Vada, Uttapam, Sambar, Rasam, Biryani, Parotta, curries, and other traditional Indian meals and desserts in accordance with menu requirements.
·Ensure consistency in the quality, taste, flavour, and presentation of all food products.
·Supervise and coordinate kitchen staff to ensure efficient food preparation and timely service.
·Discuss food preparation and catering requirements with management, staff, and customers where required.
·Store, freeze, and preserve food items in accordance with food safety and hygiene standards.
·Prepare food to accommodate customer preferences and dietary requirements where required.
·Maintain the effective day-to-day operation and cleanliness of the kitchen and food preparation areas.
·Ensure compliance with hygiene, sanitation, and food safety regulations.
·Train and support kitchen staff and apprentices.
·Assist in coordinating kitchen staffing and daily work schedules.
Qualification and Experience
·Minimum qualification is a Diploma in Hospitality. Adequate industry experience may be considered in lieu of formal qualifications.
·Previous experience as a chef in an Indian restaurant, ideally with exposure to authentic South Indian cuisine.
·Ability to prepare a variety of traditional South Indian dishes and Indian sweets in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
·Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene, and kitchen operations.
·Enthusiastic and proactive with excellent communication skills.
·Good leadership skills with strong attention to detail.
·Ability to work efficiently under pressure and coordinate with kitchen staff to meet service and catering requirements.
